Amateur Radio links:

Some local amateurs:

Lee G0MTN

Roger G4BBT

Solihull Amateur Radio Society

My local amateur radio club.

Bill & Larry's Home Page

The very extensive site run by my friends Larry WB9LOZ & Bill K9AT in San Francisco, who I met on my first trip to the States. Larry used to be an engineer with KGO-TV in San Francisco and there are links to some good broadcasting sites (including a very interesting description of the HDTV High Definition TV system currently coming into use there) as well as some amateur radio pages. There are also some excellent photographs detailing their many trips (mainly within the USA, but some elsewhere).

Charlie M0PZT

Radio Society of Great Britain

The UK National Society for Amateur Radio.

Ofcom

Previously the Radiocommunications Agency. The UK government body controlling the radio spectrum. Some very useful info here..!

DCC Home Page

The Datacomms Committee page. The DCC deals with applications for packet radio BBS's and nodes etc. in the UK and coordinates with the licensing authorities on behalf of the users and sysops.

Cat related links:

Here are a few more cat related sites I've found on my travels around the web.

Cats Protection

Another must for cat lovers. Cats Protection (formerly the Cats Protection League) is the UK's premier charity for cat welfare. They rehome and look after thousands of unwanted and abandoned cats every year. They need your support..!

I do some volunteer work at my local Adoption Centre here in the Birmingham area, it's hard work but enjoyable, the best part is when the cats go out to good homes :-)

Fredcat..!

Fredcat was an expatriate British moggy in the USA, but he unfortunately died recently :-(
However his website is being humbly continued by Frankie the Fearless :-)

The Kittycam..!

Another moggy webcam :-)

The Cat Carol

A real tear-jerker for Christmas, it's the story of a cat shut out in a blizzard on Christmas Eve, who gave her life to save a little mouse :-(

Shii's Song

Found this one on one of the cat newsgroups, if you're not crying buckets by the end, then you have no soul whatsoever..! Everyone should play this on a weekly basis :-)

Some other interesting links:

Ian Jelf's Home Page

Ian is a friend I met through our mutual interest in buses and other things to do with transport. He's a Blue Badge tour guide and a veritable mine of useful (and useless..!) information..! If you ever go on a coach tour, watch out, he may be your guide..!

Ian also does walking tours around many well known (and some unlikely) locations. I went on one tour in Warwick a while ago; I've known the town for over 30 years, but Ian taught me things I never knew about the place before..! If you get the chance, you really should sample his unique brand of tourism :-)

Campaign for Real Ale

Well I couldn't leave this site out, could I..?! The home page of the UK's campaigning organisation to preserve the heritage and quality of that unique British institution, Real Ale..!  (I'm a life member, by the way..!)

Friends Reunited

If you haven't heard of this site by now, where have you been..?! It's intended to help you find old school friends and work colleagues, and has an extensive database of schools, workplaces etc. As a result, I met up with some people I went to school with over 30 years ago..! Well worth a visit..!

Gibson Research (grc.com)

The home of the ShieldsUp! Internet Security test. Try it, it will surprise you, it may well unnerve you also, but it will make you very aware of the security loopholes in your system..!

Sipgate

One of the things I've become interested in since I came on the internet is VoIP (Voice over IP) telephony, which is basically voice communications using your internet connection. This has been around in various forms for quite a while, but up to very recently the quality of audio has left a lot to be desired.

Sipgate are a company based in Germany, but who have been operating in the UK for a few years now. They provide free accounts for VoIP so you can see if you like the system or not without spending large sums of money..! You get a normal phone number that allows you to make free calls to other users of the system and very cheap calls to the PSTN (public network). You can test out the system using special software on your PC or (a better option) buy a special phone or an adaptor that allows you to plug in any ordinary telephone. Important: you need a broadband connection to be able to use this service.

Note: There are now many other companies operating similar services in the UK, but as far as I know, Sipgate is the only one who does not impose a monthly rental for their service, which is a good reason for trying them out at least, in my view..!

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council Homepage

Some interesting information about Solihull and the local area where I live (not bad for a council..!)
