'Main Street Station', Guerneville, California, 14th September 2002

I've been a fan of Lisa Sanders for a while now, since I first came across her music here on the web around a year or so ago, so when I found she was singing not too far (80 miles, but that's nothing in US distances..!) from where I was going to be staying in San Francisco on holiday this year, I had to make the trip..! A few emails to and from Lisa's manager Anita, and I found that although I'd be travelling quite a way to see Lisa, I hadn't actually travelled the furthest; apparently someone made the trip from France last year, but I was close ;-)

I'm not a journalist or a reviewer, so it's not easy for me to describe Lisa's music to those of you who haven't heard it. I don't really like categorising music or artists, so I won't try. All I can say is please do have a listen for yourselves and make up your own minds. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Anyway, to my trip...

After a somewhat delayed start from San Francisco, due to someone opening their door as I was passing and taking off my passenger door mirror (don't drive in San Francisco unless you absolutely have to..!) I finally got on the road, over the Golden Gate Bridge and north on Highway 101...

Guerneville is a small town in Northern California, not far from Santa Rosa, so it was relatively easy to find, although with my lousy sense of direction I did manage to make a wrong turn a couple of times..! Main Street Station isn't actually a station, although it is on Main Street..! It's a small restaurant that serves excellent pizza, amongst other things, although my apologies must go to Suzi (the owner) and her staff for eating earlier in the day and so not being hungry..! I'll make sure to sample extensively on my next visit, I promise..!

Watching someone perform live in front of an audience is very different from listening to a CD or watching a video, and I've been disappointed in the past with some artists, so what would Lisa be like..?

What can I say, she was outstanding, I was held spellbound for the best part of three hours..! All my favourite tracks from "Life Takes You Flying" ('Come On and Dance', 'Queen Of My Castle'), and others, plus several new songs that haven't been heard before.

I also got to meet with Lisa before and after the show, and even got my picture taken with her, although I take a terrible photo, so I won't inflict it on anyone here..! (If you see this, Lisa, you look great, it's me that looks terrible..!!) She also gave me a demo copy of her new CD, "Hold On Tightly", due out next year. There are some great songs there, some of which are available as MP3's, via her site (link below).

For those of you who haven't yet discovered Lisa's music, please do take a look and have a listen, and please let me know what you think..!

Finally, my thanks must go to Anita York, Suzi and her staff at Main St. Station, plus of course Lisa herself, for such a great night :-)
