Bikes & stuff...!
News - April 2007 - I've finally bought a new bike..! It's a Honda CBF600S, a little smaller than my previous 900 but a lot easier to manage; much as I loved the Diversion, it's a big beast and I'm rather a shortarse ;-)
Here are a few photos; since they were taken I've fitted a top box and also found a space for the Garmin 2610 satellite navigation box (see below), but otherwise it's as you see it.
The next step is fitting the 2-way amateur radio equipment, but I'm still waiting for some bits for that, more photos when it's all done :-)
Just for old times sake (well I had the bike 7 years..!) here are a couple of my old Yamaha 900S Diversion:
As I mentioned on the main page, one of my favourite places to go on the bike is (or rather was, see below) the Waterside, in Stratford-upon-Avon. This is a very popular place with bikers on Sundays and Bank Holidays, as these photos show..! If you see my bike there, please do come and say hello..! I can also occasionally be found at the regular bike meets at Bassetts Pole, between Birmingham and Lichfield, on a Tuesday evening, or the Waterman, Hatton, on Wednesdays.
07 April 2002 - The Waterside in the good old days :-)
Here are some photos of the Waterside before the council stopped bikes from parking there :-(
Click on any image for a full screen picture, while viewing click on the picture for the next one in sequence, or the link shown to come back here. When you get to the last picture, clicking on it will also bring you back here. I apologise in advance for the poor quality of some of these photos, but my excuse is I'd only just bought the digital camera and also I wasn't yet used to the image editing software ;-)
April 2003 - The bike parking along the Waterside is no more :-((
Well, after months of uncertainty, it's finally happened... The council have completely banned bike parking from the Waterside. There are double yellow lines along the complete stretch from McDonalds to past the RSC theatre :-(
Which doesn't stop cars parking there, of course...! I haven't as yet visited the new bike park (which cost, apparently, £230,000..!) but with only 160 spaces, it will be very full, very quickly..! If people go at all, that is. As I said, I've not yet been to it, but there was something very special about the Waterside, somewhere else just won't be the same :-(
Watch this space for further news...
05 May 2003 - Bank Holiday Monday and I visit the new Bridgefoot bike park for the first time.
It is rather small in my view, and is very difficult to get into and out of some of the spaces, particularly if it's busy and lots of people are standing around. It wasn't too bad when I went, but it could be difficult for those with large bikes.
I didn't have my camera with me this time, so no photos yet, but I'll try and remember next time :-)
Will there be a next time..? On balance, yes I think so. Stratford is still Stratford, and bikers have been meeting there for as long as I've been riding and longer. I can't say I'll be going as often, or staying as long, but I'll probably still be there now and again, so watch out, and if you do see me, please come & say hello..!
14 September 2003 - Pictures of the Bridgefoot Bike Park
Well, finally here are some pictures of the new bike park, please let me know what you think..! (Of the parking, not my photography..!)
As above, clicking on any image will give you a full screen picture, click on that picture for the next one in sequence, or the link shown to come back here. When you get to the last picture, clicking on it will also bring you back here.
Satellite navigation and biking..!
I also use a Garmin 2610 GPS receiver for use on the bike, I wonder if anyone reading this has done anything similar and if so what you think..? It's mounted on the handlebars with a RAM mount and Touratech cradle and works very well, interfacing seamlessly with the Autocom intercom/radio system already on the bike, so I get the voice prompts through the helmet earpieces..!
If you have a similar unit on your bike, I'd be very interested in swapping ideas, please get in touch via the mail link below.
I'll be posting a couple of pictures of the receiver mounted on the bike when I get the chance, it looks somewhat similar to this one on the RAM mount site, watch this space.
