Bassetts Pole
The Bassetts Pole is a pub located between Birmingham and Lichfield, and is probably the best known (and busiest..!) bikers meet in the Midlands..! It takes place every Tuesday evening, and it's not uncommon for a couple of thousand bikes to be there, so if you plan to go, make sure you get there early..!
Here are a few photos of a recent visit (1st May 2007):
If you've been, you'll know where it is ;-) but if anyone reading this likes the idea of visiting but isn't sure of the exact location, it's quite easy to find. From Birmingham City Centre, take the A38M Aston Expressway to Gravelly Hill, and from there take the A38, following the signs for Lichfield. From the M6, come off at Junction 6 (Gravelly Hill, or "Spaghetti") and follow the A38 as above. From the south of Birmingham, you can take the M42 to Junction 9 and follow the A446 from there, look for signs to the Belfry Golf Club, make sure you take the first junction for the A446 at the small island, or you'll end up in Tamworth..! From Lichfield, Burton-upon-Trent and places further north, follow the A38 south.
Both the A38 and the A446 will bring you directly to the large island that the pub is located right by. There is also a McDonalds there, if you like that sort of thing, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding the place, just follow the endless stream of bikes :-)
Here's another site I found with some pictures of Bassetts Pole - www.rigsville.co.uk/bassetts.asp - there's a map there too, if you're really stuck :-)
For those of you who are concerned about this sort of thing, and I'm not making any judgements here ;-) there's nearly always a police presence of some sort at this meet, so if you've got small number plates or anything else you shouldn't have, watch out :-))
