Hi and welcome to the G6URP Home Page.

My name is Ivor and I'm a radio amateur living near the town of Solihull, south east of the City of Birmingham. My radio call is G6URP, and for 11 years I was the Sysop (System Operator) of the packet radio BBS (bulletin board) callsign GB7SOL, located there.

Paul, G1DVA took on the BBS for a few years after I gave it up, but due to equipment failures and a general lack of users, he has had to give it up also, so GB7SOL is sadly no more :-(

Apart from amateur radio, my other main interest is motorcycling. Last year I bought a new bike, a Honda CBF600S, see the Bikes page for some photos :-)

Cats..!

In December 2002, I adopted an absolutely gorgeous eight year old black and white cat from the Cats Protection shelter in Birmingham, where I now also do some volunteer work. Her name is Missy and you can see some photos of her here :-)

You can see some more of the cats who I've loved at the shelter over the years here

Another interest that I've recently returned to after many years away is landline telecommunications, in particular old telephones. I'm in the process of building up my collection, so watch this space for some photos when it's all somewhere close to finishing..!

I'm also a member of the THG (Telecommunications Heritage Group) which is an organisation dedicated to the preservation of telecommunications in all its forms, such as old telephones, kiosks and phone boxes, teleprinters etc. One of the recent projects of the THG was to recreate the nostalgia of the old GPO Speaking Clock ("TIM") in a solid state form. I have acquired one of these clocks and it can be heard on the phone number 020 7043 1320, more information here..!

Here are some of my favourite sites:

         The  CatCam   !!!

I really can't describe it, you'll have to take a look for yourself..! If you're not a cat lover, it'll be lost on you, but if you are, chances are you'll be hooked..! By the way, it's been running for over 11 years without a break, quite an achievement in itself..!

See my links page for some more cat related sites :-)

Lisa Sanders is an American singer-songwriter based in San Diego, who I first came across here on the web. She has quite a following in California and the USA, but is almost totally unknown here in the UK (I'm working on it, though..!)

On my last trip to the States I had the chance to meet Lisa and hear her sing live in California :-)  Read my account of the trip here..! Also visit Lisa's site and see for yourself why I like her so much..! There's also a link there to download MP3's of some of her songs :-)

September 2004: Saw Lisa again in the States, click here for a brief account :-)

Eve Selis - Welcome to the Roadhouse..!

Another incredible American singer-songwriter, I first met Eve when she visited the UK for the first time in November 2003. She and Lisa are friends and since I first saw her she's been back here on tour several times, every time I see her I get blown away :-)

I also met up with her in San Diego in September 2004, where she was filming a video for a song on her new CD, you can download it and other videos here. Do check her out, she's really something and has been tipped for the big time. Watch out, you'll hear more of this amazing lady; Bob Harris of BBC Radio 2 no less has said she's one of the best he's ever seen in the UK..! I'm truly proud to call her a friend :-)

to some amateur radio sites and other interesting places :-)

I'm always interested to know what people think of this site..!

Note: This site is best viewed using Mozilla Firefox,  with a screen resolution of at least 1024x768. Netscape and IE should mostly be ok, but some things don't work quite the same, this is probably my fault, but at least I've told you :-))

That's it..! Could be better, I know, but it will improve with time and beer..!
